For more than a decade, Sustainability Leaders United (Sustainability-Leaders.com) brought together voices shaping the future of sustainable tourism and destination leadership.
What began as an independent initiative evolved into a global platform featuring conversations with policymakers, destination managers, academics, and changemakers across 79 countries. Over 480 leaders shared their insights on governance, resilience, regenerative development, and the long-term competitiveness of places.
The initiative grew alongside The Place Brand Observer, rooted in a shared belief: sustainability is not a parallel conversation. It is central to how places build reputation, trust, and enduring value.
In 2025, Sustainability Leaders United concluded as a standalone project. Its mission, however, continues.
Rather than maintaining a separate platform, we have integrated its legacy into the broader editorial framework of The Place Brand Observer. Sustainability leadership remains embedded in our reporting, interviews, research features, and curated showcases — not as a niche theme, but as a foundational lens.
The website sustainability-leaders.com now redirects to our new landing page, reflecting this integrated chapter.
This transition reflects a broader evolution. Today, conversations about place branding, investment attraction, tourism strategy, and urban competitiveness are inseparable from sustainability considerations. The field has matured. So have we.
I would like to thank every contributor, partner, and reader who supported Sustainability Leaders United over the past twelve years. The dialogue continues — with renewed focus and expanded perspective.
Sustainability remains central to how places shape identity, strengthen reputation, and position themselves for long-term resilience.
